Born in Sturgeon Falls, Mark moved to Sudbury in 1972 where he became a member of Théâtre du Nouvel-Ontario, joining forces with the creative collective of André Paiement, Marcel Aymar, and Michael Gallagher. Quickly realizing that acting was not his calling, he began designing lighting for the theatre group. As his talent developed he found himself designing, or serving as technical director, for many festivals.
In 1974 Mark presented audio-video workshops to prison inmates while developing a pilot project for the Province of Ontario. A year later, he became a member of CANO Musique. What a great concept: the "light guy" gets royalties!
Over the years Mark has developed a long list of clients including the Danny Grossman Dance Company, CBC Television, CTV, La nuit sur l’étang, Le Festival Franco, NCC, and TVO.
Since 1991 Mark has resided in the Ottawa region, working as Production Coordinator at the Canadian Museum of Civilization. He shares his life with Denise, Beauty and Bambou.
To this day, Mark's biggest motivation has been to collaborate with his friends, the members of CANO. "There is no bigger high", says the light man. |
